Packing tips for holidaymakers

When you’re heading away on holiday it’s important not to forget your essentials. In this blog I’ll look at some packing tips to help you make the most of your suitcase space and a checklist to make sure you’ve got all your most important items.

5 Packing tips

  1. Wear your heaviest items of clothing when you’re travelling. If you wear your heaviest jacket when you’re boarding the plane you won’t get it weighed as part of your luggage. They weigh your luggage, not you!

  2. Invest in a lightweight suitcase. The more weight you save will let you pack more.

  3. Don’t bring anything heavy you can buy when you’re away. You can buy shampoo and conditioner while you’re away. Don’t bother with towels or a hairdryer either. Your hotel will supply these.

  4. Make the decision on your clothes before you go. Pick out whatever you need and be ruthless on what you take. You’ll probably not need half of what you think you do.

  5. Roll your clothes instead of folding them. It not only saves space, but stops creasing too. Tuck in underwear into gaps and roll up your socks and put them inside your shoes.

Packing for children?

When you’re heading on a family holiday you’ll have to think about your little ones, so you’re going to need to keep space in your luggage for everything they’ll need. This will make your luggage a bit heavier. You’ll have to pack all their clothes and food if they’re too young to eat solids. Make sure you have plenty of sun protection for them. This will include a sun hat and factor 50+ sun cream. It’s also a good idea to keep some kind of toy handy to keep them amused while you’re travelling.
